Autumn Series - West Chatswood
Monday, April 16, 2007
Today's the day... who needs a car.
been packed the night before, it was on with the shoes, a cursory
stretch of the legs and calves, and I was off to work. I've ridden the
work plenty of times, but this was my first attempt at commuting by
foot. The first couple of km's were hard (as they always are), but
after the body was convinced that I wasn't going to stop, I settled in to
rhythm.
The cool air and morning light over the bay was worth the pain. What
is about 11.8 kms to ride actually took me 10.8kms (63mins), cutting
through the parks and reserves saved me about 1km in running. I
arrived feeling great, now all i have to do is run home tonight. :-)
Happy Trails.

Autumn Series - Burns Bay
This week was a week of expectations. After the debacle of last, I wanted to make amends, but I was foiled by my own enthusiasm. It all began well enough, but quickly went to pot. While attempting to locate 14 I became disorientated and ended up missing 3 controls (80 points total, bugger). The next nine controls went to plan, but being close to home, I attempted a route that really wasn't on the cards and it cost me time! 220 points this week (missing the controls and being late had cost me 150 points).
Lesson learnt this week: on night events stay on the tracks unless it open fields.
Happy trails.

This week my sibblings, Cal and Phil joined in, and while they overshot their first control, they made it back under time and 140 points in the bag, well done. They'll be back fo next week.

Joss Stone Concert
It was amazing to hear such a voice coming from anyone, let along a 19yr old.
A quality concert.

MaxAdventure Training Weekend
Saturday was mostly a day of theory, Navigation techniques, Mountain bike skills and Kayaking. the day culminated in a mini night course.
Sunday is where were put it all together in a Adventure Challenge. 13 controls (1 kayak, 7 Bike and 5 trekking). th course took us across Narabeen lake, over Oxford Falls and around Cromer (Red Hill). Our team did well, only really having trouble on the last running control. We finished in 4hr1min, second was 30mins behind.
Thanks Kim and Ben a great experience.

Summer Series - East Ryde (Great North Walk)
It was the second last event for the current series and another perfect evening. On the initial look at the map, it appeared to be a pretty open course with lots of running to be had, and it was. The only thing that I underestimated was the hills. Not all the controls were obvious so your navigation had to be spot on. By the end of the evening I had accumilated 380 points, but had to take a 50 point penalty. Not unhappy with my efforts.
